How to choose Healthy Dog Food

There are so many varieties of Dog foods available now but some of them may be unhealthy and some may be healthier. So while purchasing dog food we have to verify it and then you can make a decision. The unhealthy food may food which contains artificial chemicals added in it which may cause harmful effects on dogs. Healthy dog food contains all ingredients from natural sources or high quality ingredients in it.

Healthy dog food is popular because they are rich in essential nutrients, safe and dont cause any harm. They have numerous health benefits to dog. But the problem is how to identify Healthy dog food? First and most important thing you have to do is Read labels.

There are several criterias on basis of that we can decide healthy dog food or unhealthy dog food, these are as follows.

1) Protein source - Dog needs Proteins for adequate growth. Look for high quality meat or fish sources of protein. Grade A quality sources are referred as high quality with higher biological value such as chicken, salmon and white fish. The egg is also another excellent protein source. Try to avoid red meat as protein source such as beef and pork.

2) Fat sources - Fat in adequate quantity is much needed on a daily basis but the extra fat percentage in diet may put the dog at risk of obesity. So look for pure sources such as chicken and fish oil. Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids which have so many health benefits to dog health. Try to avoid blended fat, vegetable fats or oils as the primary fat source because these are unhealthy.

3) Carbohydrate Sources - Carbohydrates are the source of energy so must be provided as per need of a dog. Always look for whole grains, cereals and wheat gluten free foods. The premium quality food sources must be in the product.

4) Fibre Sources - Fibre plays much important role in digestive system for normal functioning. There are two types of fibre soluble and insoluble fibre. Look for both sources such as beet pulp. Try to avoid Corn bran, peanut hulls, rice hulls, soybean hulls, oat hulls.

5) Vitamins and Minerals - Look for vitamin and mineral content in it. Also look for antioxidant such as beta carotene, vitamin C, E which can protect dogs from harmful effects of free radicals.

6) Final conclusion - Keep this in mind that every dog has its own requirement and it will be depend on dog breed, age, sex, height, weight and activity level of the dog. So while choosing Healthy dog food think about all these variants and then buy a perfect product for your dog.
