Those things can be items like shoes, beddings, cushions, etc. Mostly they have the tendency to chew the nearby furniture. This behavior of the dogs is mostly common. They tend to behave in this way only when they are getting bored, stressed out or when they are undergoing a tooth ache.

Now, to avoid such habit, you will have to ensure that your dog gets regular exercise and some time to play as well. The quantity of the exercise and play are supposed to be according to the breed of dog you have. At the same time, you are also supposed to let your dog undergoing a training which gives constructive strength.

Such training not only will teach your dog to behavior properly and have good manners, but at the same time, it will also teach your dog to adept to situations as fast as possible. The first step to let your dog unlearn this behavior is to give it a toy. When a dog is given a toy it starts chewing. This will actually divert the mind of your dog from the surrounding furniture. Not just toys, but even there are some other items which are made to chew.

The second method that you can use is to distract your dog. If you find your dog chewing furniture, give a loud aggressive clap and try to distract them. After distracting them, you will have to show them the right object to chew and that is the chewing toys.
