Features to Consider When Choosing Dog Muzzles

There are four features of a dog muzzle which would influence your choice of purchase; they are the type of material, size, color, and durability.

1. Material
One of the biggest influences when you want to buy dog muzzles is their material, as different materials have different uses for them. The four common ones are the basket, leather, plastic, and nylon. Basket dog muzzles are usually used for untrained, aggressive dogs, with space for them to drink or pant; leather typically used for those who wants an appealing look; plastic for less aggressive dogs, which is also a cheaper alternative; and nylon for a lightweight and snug fit, keeping their mouths from opening. For dogs with short snouts, there are special muzzles that are made of mesh that is suited for them. Among them all, the basket and nylon material are the easiest to clean.

2. Size
Size is also an important thing to consider as it would determine the comfort or your dog. A comfortable muzzle will allow your dog to fully concentrate on the tasks they have to execute, rather than splitting their focus between the task and the pain they are enduring from the wrong muzzle size. On the long term, an incorrect fit will be detrimental to your dog's health, too.

3. Durability
You would definitely want to buy dog muzzles that last. A nylon strap muzzle can be used for a short term basis, as it does not allow your dog to pant or quench their thirst, but long enough for a visit to the vet. However, if you are planning to use it on a long term basis, you will want to get one that allows them to move their mouth muscles to move freely within the constraint. Anyhow, they should be easy for you to wear and remove so that the friction does not end up spoiling it. They should also be able to be securely attached to the snout so that your dog cannot use its paw to get it off.
