With all the love and comfort dogs have given to their owners, it is only right for their owners to show the same affection by providing them the best dog blankets available on the market. Blankets are not necessarily essential to dogs and they may not even see the significance behind it. However, they deserve to be pampered in every way possible. These blankets are specifically designed for them so as to give them the warmth they need during cold nights. Although their fur coats can provide them warmth, the additional heat will help them feel more comfortable especially during winter. The use of these blankets is very advantageous for dogs and their owners but there are also some disadvantages that should be noted.

Advantages

  • Aside from the warmth blanket gives, they can also protect sofas and beds from hairs. Having a dog at home is like having a moving hair dispenser. No matter where they go, they will leave traces of hair. This can be troublesome when cleaning the sofas since their hair can easily embed on the fabric. Laying a blanket on where your dog normally sits or sleeps can easily prevent that from happening since the hair will instead go the blanket. This can also be helpful when you are trying to pet your dog on your lap.
  • Since most dog blankets are made with light fabric, you can easily use it to wrap newly bought dogs from pet stores. Blankets can resemble the warmth of their mother and this can comfort them a lot especially now that they are away from their mother. In fact, some breeders recommend that you should first give the blanket to the puppy sellers ahead of the pickup date. This will allow the scent of the mother to adhere to the blanket and thus comforting the puppy even more when you bring it home.

Disadvantages

  • Blankets have the potential to suffocate dogs especially when the blankets are too big for them. Small dogs can easily lose their way out the blankets and once they are trapped for a very long time, they may have a hard time in breathing. Some dogs also fall on the edge of their beds when they try to get out of their blankets since they won't see where they are going.
  • Dogs may also chew their blankets and this can easily cause some digestion problems when swallowed. Some dogs may also choke from it depending on the material of the blanket and how much of the material had they swallowed. However, this can be easily avoided if you spend more time with your dogs. Remember that dogs chew on these things to relive themselves from boredom.

Not all dogs will enjoy dog blankets. It's a case to case basis and owners can't simply force their dogs to like it immediately. However, there are also those dogs that are naturally born to like these blankets. In fact, some dogs are so used to sleeping with a blanket that they sometimes can't sleep without it.
