American Eskimo Information

 

The American Eskimo dog is a very good looking small to medium size dog that looks like a miniature Samoyed. You'll find that there are three varieties of this breed of dog, the toy breed, the miniature breed and the standard size. The coat of an American Eskimo does not curl or get wavy and undercoat should get very thick. They American Eskimo comes in a couple of different colorations. You also find that their coat will be especially heavy around the neck.

Temperament

The American Eskimo dog is a very affectionate and loving dog. They're very hardy an extremely playful and could not be better with children. Because of the high intelligence and the willingness to please, Eskimos are extremely easy to train and among top scorers in obedience trials. They will be wary of strangers however once introduced they will become very friendly to those that you invite into your home.

Living conditions

This is a very active dog that will enjoy playing outdoors so you want to make sure you have a fairly large yard for them to play. They will do well living in an apartment as long as they get enough exercise. They need to be taken on a lot walks or are spent quite a bit of time outside during the day as they are very high energy.

Grooming

The thick coat of the American Eskimo is extremely easy to groom. You should make sure that you're brushing them with a bristle brush one or two times per week. When you're American Eskimo dog is shedding you need to brush it every day. This breed of dog is known to be an average shedder. So you want to make sure that you are grooming them properly so that their coat won't become matted.

Origin

The American Eskimo is one of the Spitz family of Nordic breeds. It is very closely related to the German spitz. It is said that this breed of dog was brought to America of by German settlers. They've became extremely popular do to their willingness to please and a high intelligence. They also have incredible routing instincts and have been put to work as a watchdog, narcotics section and have been very competitive in obedience and performing tricks.
