The French Bulldog is a small breed of domestic dog. "Frenchies" were the result in the 1800s of a cross between bulldog ancestors imported from England and local ratters in Paris. The French bulldog was originally bred for their ability to be able to drive stock animals around. Normally these days they are either show dogs or companion dogs to a family and they just adore kids. Light exercise and snuggling on the couch are really this dogs idea of a great day.In 2013, the American Kennel Club (AKC) ranked the French Bulldog as the 11th most popular breed in the United States, enjoying a sharp rise in popularity from 54th place a decade before, in 2003. By 2014, they had moved up to become the ninth most popular AKC registered dog breed in the USA.

 

Size

The French bulldog will weigh up to 50 pounds if they happen to be a male and around 40 pounds if it is a female. If your French bulldog is a show dog they can weigh up to 10 pounds more and a properly sized French bulldog is going to be between 12 to 15 inches at the shoulder.

Personality

The French bulldog makes an excellent companion dog as well as a guard dog as they have an extremely courageous personality. This type of dog is extremely sociable and very sweet and would do well in a home that is very busy or kind of slowing pace. They are extremely easygoing and friendly but do have a stubborn streak in them. You can have some difficulties in teaching them obedience however once they've learned something they haven't forever. Generally they gruff exterior is enough to scare off any one that isn't supposed to be in their house. The French Bulldog rarely barks, and if he does it is to draw attention, to point out that she needs something, or just because he is not happy. This breed is patient and affectionate with its owners, especially with children, who are especially protected by the females. French Bulldogs can easily live with other breeds when the proper introductions are done.
