Most dogs love the water, so bath time is something enjoyable for them. However, its a big challenge to bathe a dog thats sick and cant move around. Paralyzed dogs or the ones that have DM in dogs might dislike their bath time because its a hassle and they probably are afraid of the water.

Here are a few tips to make their bath time a bit easier and enjoyable.

Use a Tube

Its easier to give a dog that has problems moving a bath inside a tub. You can use your bathtub or you can purchase one of those plastic ones used for babies. Just make sure that you get a tub thats big enough that the dog fits comfortably.

Test the Water

Youll want to bathe them in water thats not too hot. Warm water can help sooth their muscles and let them relax. Dip your hands into the water to check the temperature and adjust it till you think its just right. To make it easier, always have a kettle of hot water around.

Use a Bubble Bath

So you wont have to bother with soap, just place some bubble bath in the water and let it bubble up. There are some dog care brands that offer bubble baths. Some are even medicated to get rid of pest like fleas and ticks.

Have a Brush

Brush and scrub your dog to take any dirt and grime out of their fur. Le them soak in the water for a few minutes before you scrub them down. This helps separate their fur and avoid any lumps of hair from developing. Dirt and fur would just sink down to the bottom and its easier to clean the tub after.

Dont Miss their Face

Dont just concentrate on their body. Make sure you clean their eyes, ears and mouth. You can use a baby toothbrush when cleaning your dogs teeth since these brushes has soft bristles. Special dog toothpaste is also available in most pet supply store.

Dry Them Well

Since your dog has a hard time moving because of paralysis or DM in dogs, then make sure you dry them well to avoid getting that wet dog smell. You can use a blow dryer but some dogs are afraid of the loud sound it makes. Just use a towel and dry them off well. Dont forget to comb or brush through their hair.
