I will repeat that. If you own a cat then you need a cat carrier! Taking your cat from one location to another in a properly sized and ventilated cat carrier provides safety for your cat, gives your cat a sense of security and well being, and provides you piece of mind.

Cat carriers are becoming more popular because more cat owners are coming to realize the importance of carrying their cats in cat carriers.

Have you ever had a scared cat in your arms? If you have you know they can become quite an arm full. Think of the same cat in your car if you are involved in an accident or something else scares your cat. Off it goes all over the car - maybe under the gas or brake pedal. Using a cat carrier would help to contain that scared cat and possibly prevent you from having serious problems.

It seems that some in the entertainment industry have decided to make a fashion statement with their carriers. Now if you want to keep up with Hollywood crowd that is your choice but it really makes no difference why you decide to purchase a carrier. The important thing is to have and use one for your cat.

Cat carriers come in two basic materials. Soft nylon mesh and hard plastic. Prices start at about $25 and go up. We use the soft nylon mesh type to travel with out cats because the carriers fit nicely in the rear seat of our car.

Some carriers only have an opening in the front while others have an opening at both ends as well as the top. If you have every tried to get a scared cat out of a carrier with only a front opening then you will appreciate why it is very important that your carrier at least have an opening at both ends. Preferably your carrier should have an opening at both ends and at the top.

Since the carrier is supposed to provide protection for the cat it only makes sense that no part of the cat should be able to stick out through the carrier. Your carrier should be leak proof and secure. You do not want your cat to be able to open the openings. The carrier should be big enough so that the cat can stand fully erect and be able to turn around.

Normally small and medium sized cats will do well in a soft nylon mesh carrier but if you have a big cat then you might seriously consider a hard plastic carrier. Generally the hard plastic carriers are easier to clean. If you are going to take your cat on an airplane check with the airline to see what type of cat carrier they require.

If you are going to travel with your cat you will find it to your advantage to carry your cat in a cat carrier. Cat carriers are designed in various hard plastic or soft-sided varieties and should be big enough and provide adequate ventilation. Cat carriers provide your cat with a safe, secure and familiar place when you travel, and can keep your curious cat out of trouble when need be. Traveling with your cat can be enjoyable but plan ahead and make sure you use a cat carrier.
