Involuntarily Rich

They say some people have all the luck. This may be true about abilities and talents. Some people are born gifted and there is nothing you can do about it. However, when the subject is to make real money online I don't believe in luck. People say I was lucky. Even if it is true, I built my own luck brick by brick.

I always had cats since I was a little boy. The population of the cats I share my house with varied between 2 and 5 in all these years. Of course some of my best friends were veterinarians. One day one of them asked me why I don't share my experiences with other people using the Internet and I said why not. So I started a blog regarding everything about cats. I had different subtitles in the blog like "cat behavior", "toys for cats", "funny cats" and "healthy cats." I wrote everything I could think of that would help people and their cats in my blog. I was using a Wordpress template and in the admin panel of the template there were keywords, tags and everything that would make it easier for people to find my blog.

I was concerned mostly about the wellbeing of the cats. So I was trying to make people understand their needs and interpret their actions. A few months later I started to receive emails and comments about my blog entries. So I started to answer the questions and write new things according to real problems of real people. In all that time I never used a web counter or a tool like Google AdSense.

One day they I got a call from my hosting company complaining about the bandwidth I was using. They said that they would charge more because of the traffic I was attracting and a lot of technical gibberish. I didn't know what most of it meant but their technical language was very convincing and I didn't want to lose my web site so I said "okay." Then, a friend of mine asked me why I don't take ads and cover my hosting costs using the revenue.

So I started to think about ways to cover my costs. There were pay per click programs, banner ads and so on but I didn't want to fill my web site with advertisements. I was already writing reviews about some products giving links to online shops. I checked my links and found out that some of those online shops were in affiliate programs. I registered with their affiliate programs and changed my links with the ones affiliate program gave me. Nothing was changed. The links were still going to the same pages but if someone coming from my web site made a purchase, I was getting a percentage from the sales.

Now I'm receiving my salary of two months in just two weeks from my web site. I didn't start the blog to make real money online but now I'm picking the fruits of my good willed hard work. You tell me if this is luck.
