Tamed animals are at our mercy and rely on us for many things, including water and food, shelter and fundamental veterinary care to make sure they are properly vaccinated towards disease and treated for any infections or illnesses. While most people have pets within our home and handle them like family members, there are people who keep animals and neglect them every day. You may be unaware of the various forms of animal abuse as well as cruelty, but if you realize of anyone who will be treating an animal horribly, you have a duty to report it to the local authorities. You should be the voice for all those animals who can not speak for themselves.
There are numerous forms of animal mistreatment and cruelty and several of them may not even seem like abuse to someone who does not see the pet on a daily basis. For example, a dog that is chained up in the yard all day long with no food and water or refuge is being abused. Someone that sees the dog inside the yard may not observe outright abuse initially, but actually, the animal is being neglected.
Upon closer examination, it is sometimes found that dogs that are chained up all of the time may even possess a collar that is embedded in their skin. This takes place when a dog is suited with a collar as a puppy, and that dog collar was never adjusted, not to taking into consideration that the dog is continuing to grow. If a collar will be embedded into the epidermis, it must be surgically removed by a veterinarian.
Dogs that do not receive typical veterinarian care or even any proper care whatsoever can suffer from eye infections, ear infections, flea and tick infestations. When they are not groomed regularly, their fur can become matted and can fall out in patches.
Factory farming is where thousands of animals are stuffed into small spaces. One example would be laying hens in small cages that are by no means allowed to see the outside world or to leave their cages. Meat birds, such as turkeys and chickens are kept indoors and can trample each other as well as peck one another to death.
Horses require special care, and when people own them but do not supply regular hoof care, problems can occur. Hooves grow constantly, much like people's toenails, and they must be trimmed and shaped at least once every three months with a farrier. If hooves are not properly cared for, the hooves can grow and curve upwards, making it not possible for the horse just to walk. Eventually, the horse will become lame and can need to be euthanized.
Coat farms are common abroad in third world countries. This is probably the most vicious treatment of animals imaginable. Small dogs and cats are usually kept in cages and so are beaten unconscious with a club. While they're unconscious, they are skinned alive and then thrown into a huge heap like waste. When the animal regains awareness, it suffers from extreme pain and passes away a slow death. The actual furs are used to develop small novelty products for children.
Greyhounds are bred regarding racing, are exterminated when they stop winning backrounds. In some cases, these wildlife are sent with regard to experimentation. Animals used for experimentation, such as rabbits, are blinded using something called "Draize testing" where substances are put directly into their eyes. The best way to discourage this kind of cruelty is usually to purchase products that are "not tested on animals".
In some cases, owners are simply ignorant of the level of care along with attention that their animals require. Animal regulators often provide those owners with education and learning and offer them a certain amount of time to correct the situation. Given the period of time and if still changes haven't been made, animals will be legally seized from those owners. Pet owners themselves can even be disciplined.
