The British Blue is a variety of the British Shorthair and related to the Russian Shorthair, which is a descendant of a cat which was brought to Britain by the ancient Romans. They are famous for being bred with a wild native cat, and then latter on bred with the Persian breed. This was to make the coat slightly thicker.

Personality and Temperament

British Blues tend to be very affectionate. They follow you around the house and cannot settle until you are by their side. They are also very patent and confident, meaning that they won’t annoy you too much if you aren’t spending enough time with them

The British Blue Shorthair has also been known to be very good with children, which is a common question. This presents that case that they are very kind and gently and play well with children. They also cope very well with other types of pets and if introduced properly with get on with almost anything. The cat is quite active, but don’t let this worry you as they aren’t known to be destructive and therefore you can feel safe with them inside your house when you are out. They are especially affectionate cats when they are around what they call family, so if you treat the cat with respect, you will get a lot from the breed in return.

The British Blue prefers its food to be a high quality dry cat foot, which most people recommend to keep your cat in its prime. Although this can be expensive, it is important for their health. As well as this a lot of care needs to be taken, as not to allow your cat to get too fat, as this can lead to a lot of health problems and in the long run can decrease its life span. You need to keep an eye on this especially when their age hits about 5-10 years old, as this is when the British Blue can put on the weight easily. This can be solved and managed easily if you switch your cat onto a low calorie cat foot. It is said that you need to feed the cat twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. However, if your pet is overweight instead of cutting down its meals to one, please just give the animal less food at each meal. If you continue to have problems with the cat’s weight, then consult your vet.
