Caring For Cats - How To Prepare And What To Expect!

Caring for cats is something I have been proud to do my entire life and loved every second of it. Not only are they great fun to be around, its very rewarding watching them developing their own personalities not to mention learning all their likes and dislikes.

For me it has never, ever been a chore caring for cats, for me it has always been unconditional. If you treat them with love and respect then they will always respond in kind.

Caring For Cats should not begin when the cat enters your home but before you get them. I thoroughly recommend that you do as much reading as possible on cats prior to getting them. When you have done this regardless of your new friends age, all the necessities required should be available upon the cats arrival into your home. This includes the cat litter tray, cat litter, clean cat bowls, food, a cat carrier and comfy, warm bedding for the cat to sleep and maybe a couple of soft toys.

Cats have bad habits the same as us humans. When caring for cats, the main bad habit you will likely come across is their obsessive scratching.

Cats love to scratch in order to stretch themselves or sharpen their claws and can do a lot of damage if not taken care of. I would strongly advise investing in a scratch post sooner rather than later as this will usually deter the cat from attacking your furniture, carpet, wallpaper and even your favorite curtains.

As again with humans, all cats have unique personalities and character traits. At the moment I have 2 domesticated cats, Albert and Lola and they could not be any more different from one another. Although both are very tame and affectionate, Lola (the female) is very timid around strangers. If she hears one raised voice on the television then she will scurry up the stairs for a place to hide, you have to work for her affections. With Albert (the male) it is the total opposite as he is a real people person and it does not take much for you to get his attention.

In conclusion, not in a million years is caring for cats an impossible task, they are very clean, independent animals and sometimes like to be left to their own devices, this is fine but never forget to do your research prior to getting your new pet, have the proper necessities required, give them all the love and attention needed and you will have a friend for life.
