Safe Procedure Of Killing Ticks On Cats

Ticks are external parasites that infest cats and dogs and cause various medical complications. The female tick is attached to the body of the host and sucks blood from it. She can lay almost 2000 eggs at a time, and after sucking blood, she detached herself from the body of the host and lays eggs in the environment. The eggs hatch into larva, which are commonly known as seed ticks, the next stage of larva is nymph before becoming an adult tick. These ticks are tiny monsters, which are attached to the body of your adorable pet and causes severe discomfort to the animal.

It is not necessary that a tick will lay eggs in the environment only; it can also lay eggs over the body of the pet. So just, imagine 2000 eggs over the body of your cat, sounds scary does not it. However, you do not have to worry, as here is a safe procedure of killing ticks on cats.
Safe procedure for killing ticks

  • You will require few things like tweezers, a small glass jar with alcohol, disinfectant and a pair of gloves

  • You will require help of some one in killing ticks. The cat must be in a calm mood and let someone pamper the cat so that it remains calm.

  • Locate a tick by removing the cat’s fur and carefully grab its head with the help of a tweezers. Make sure that the tweezers has a narrowing pointed end so that it becomes easy for you to grab the parasite.

  • You must make sure that you do not grab the body of the tick when you pull it out, rather just hold its head firmly. This is the only way of killing ticks; you must not twist it while pulling it out.

  • Pull it straight without jerking or shaking the tick. This is the most important step to remember while killing ticks as if you shake it then teethes will remain embedded in the body of the pet.

  • After taking it out drops it in the jar of alcohol so that the ticks will be killed instantly, this is the only way to kill ticks.

  • Wipe the place with cotton soaked in disinfectant where the tick was attached. After the entire procedure of killing tick is complete, wash your hands thoroughly with an antiseptic soap.


Some tips for killing ticks

  • Always wear gloves in removing ticks from the cat’s body, never touch the tick with hands as you will subjected to various tick related disease.

  • Use hydrocortisone ointment at place from where the tick was removed. This will give relief to the cat from skin irritation.

  • Do not apply petroleum jelly or kerosene on the fleas as it will not kill it but is rather harmful for the pet.
