Getting Gratitude - 5 Tips

If you haven't figured out why recession is your obsession, it's because you're living in the lake of lack - not physically, but through a poor mental mindset. Being grateful will change your mind and your life if you follow these 5 ways to gear into gratitude:

1. Experiences from the Past - Rekindle those old memories of good times. When was the last time you had a lot of fun? What were you doing? You might go back to times when you were just happy to be alive. Maybe you just recovered from a terrible injury or regained your health. Think of those times when you were with loved ones; times when you felt lucky to be alive.

2. Focus On Haves (not Have-Nots) - I see a lot of people complaining about what they don't have. This doesn't really help. You might think about your health or the great people you have come to know. You might be grateful for a new friend you just made or having a pet to keep you company. You might be grateful that you have an internet connection that gives you access to this article.

3. Start Early - I begin every morning with a simple affirmation that I repeat to myself, "thank-you." And as I walk to the washroom I say thank-you, thank-you, and thank-you for every step that I take on the way there. This is a great way to start your day and it builds energy and momentum.

4. Persistence Goes the Distance - When you start to repeat an affirmation, you want to become a parrot. Repeat the affirmation, "I'm thank-you" over and over again until it begins to become locked in your mind. Soon you'll start to notice other changes as you walk around saying "thank-you" to the things around you. You might open the fridge to grab some breakfast and notice you're saying "thank-you" to the food you're looking at. Every time you see something, you're saying "thank-you." This is such a great exercise.

5. Stay Focused- How many times have you said, "I'm grateful for my car" but at the same time you didn't feel the feelings of gratitude? It comes down to focus. You can't say, "I'm grateful for my car" one time and expect to feel amazing. If you have to say it over and over again in your mind until it becomes a mantra. "I'm grateful for my car, I'm grateful for my car, I'm grateful for my car." Keep at it. It takes consistent focus and repetition. You can't falter or loose attention.
