When your chickens get loose and out of the coop, you will have a hard time trying to catch them. They will always try to get away from you. This is also true if you just want to catch them in order to be able to check their health or get them ready to be sold or butchered.

 

No matter how used to humans chickens are, they are always hard to catch. You will need to coax them into feeding in order to come close to them. The key here is to never chase them as this will make them more wary of you. Grabbing at their tails or wings might injure them and you don't want that to happen because hens would lay fewer eggs when subjected to stress.

To prevent disease from existing in your chicken coop, it is essential that the dropping tray be cleaned always. Never let it overflow, throw the dropping into the compost bin immediately or you can put it directly to your garden to fertilize your plants. Your vegetable garden can also benefit from chicken droppings, it can provide you with fat and healthy vegetables.

Constant handling of the chickens and making them get used to the human touch is necessary especially if one should get sick and you need to check it up and find out what's wrong with it. In time the chickens will become familiar with you and they will not make too much noise when you pick them up.

Always be sure that the chicken droppings are disposed of properly to prevent any diseases from spreading. Keep it clean and keep the droppings in a compost bin for future use as fertilizer or you can use it directly to fertilize your garden. You will not only have healthy chickens but also healthy vegetables that you can consume.

When you see that the grass underneath the coop is dying out, it is time to move the chicken coop to another place so that the grass could grow back. This will also ensure that there will be no diseases that can build up in your chicken coop.
The chickens must be checked every week for any sickness. If you know how to catch and handle them, it will be easier for you to check on their health. Also, be sure that the coop is always clean and provided with fresh straw everyday.
