Importance of feeding for a days old chick:

  • Make sure that you never force the chick to eat if it does not want more.
  • During the 1st few feedings a couple of drops will suffice.
  • Make sure you Feed every two hours, or until the crop is almost empty.
  • In your 1st feeding, use only an electrolyte solution.

Almost all the baby chicks will gladly accept the food. In any case if you find the baby is not taking in any of the liquid, place him back inside the brooder and wait fifteen minutes before you try again. Another thing have a hot glass of water next to you would be ideal as holding the pipette in it for a few seconds will warm it up. Sometimes the baby parrots need to practice this before they understand eating from a pipette or syringe. If the chick is still not accepting food, make sure the food is warm enough.

Most of the time two months old parrot should be feed just three times a day, make sure if the temperature is very hot you give water to drink every now and then. Most of parrots are living on a diet rich in sunflower or safflower seeds or cereal grains are always duller and less aware of their surroundings than birds fed a more natural diet. This is because parrots on seed and cereal grain-based diets are nutritionally deprived; those eating mainly pellets are often frustrated and bored. These parrots enjoy fruits, blossoms, and seeds. Because of their need to eat fresh fruits many farmers around the world regard ringnecks as a serious pest. Also it is not advisable to feed too much of dry seed mix because they do not have many nutrients for your bird's health.

It's advisable to add apple, fresh sweetcorn and other fruits and vegetables to the sprouted seed to give variety. Because if you see the baby parrots are the same as children when it comes to eating new foods. There would be problem when you try to handfeed it with the syringe it will keep running and flying away from it, you will have to hold its head and force your fingers between its beak and then feed it. Birds fed by hand are calmer and tamer and their socialization is far easier. In order for the feathers to stay beautiful and well-groomed, it is recommended to splash the birds with water of mild temperatures once or twice a week.

Never ever start on seeds for ten to twenty days period chicks! First remember parrot babies need to be weaned to a variety of nutritious, healthy human foods and pelleted parrot food. All the seeds should be occasional treats or rewards for positive behavior. Also, since a newly born chick is used to eating very warm handfeeding formula, we'll need to start out weaning them to warm, soft foods first.
