I have a cat that is more...

Question
I have a cat that is more like family than a pet.
I love her dearly. She is 20 yrs old and we have had her for 19 yrs.
We are moving to Hawaii from NJ in August. We booked a flight for her. She will be flying with the cargo. They do not allow pets in the cabin on flights to Hawaii.
I am concerned for her welfare. They say she cannot be sedated. Is it a bad idea to bring her?
I cannot find anyone to take her. Also I don't want to be without her.  I am afraid she might die on the plane. Any suggestions about what to do.
Thank you

Answer
You are my kind of people.  This is a tough one.  Talk to as many airlines as you can.  Ask if the hold is temperature controlled and pressurized.  Even at best, it will be traumatic for the cat.  Talk to your vet too.  You have checked on quarantine?  Until recently Hawaii was a tough place to even take a service dog.

If you don't have an approved carrier, buy one now, and start letting her get used to it.  Put familiar bedding in it, and some favorite toys.  Place it is a favorite napping spot.

If anyone she knows decides to offer to take her, it might be best.
