Question
I have 3 dogs, a cat and a bird.  I was wondering how long the animals have to remain in quarantine?

Answer
Dear Kate
Thanks for the email.  Hope this will help.
There may be NO quarantine if you follow the pet passport
program.  You need to check with DEFRA  which is the
govt authority in UK.  There is a link to them from my:
www.actionpetexpress.com    It would take approximately
6 to 7 months of processing in the U.S.  I am not sure
about the bird.  Would depend upon what you have whether
entry to UK is possible.  Again, DEFRA can answer this
best.  For the cat and dogs, the very first thing to do is
get a microchip.  Then, immediately a rabies vaccination.
Then they must have blood drawn and sent to the lab in
Kansas.  The six month period of waiting begins at the time
of blood drawing.
Be sure you go to an accredited veterinarian who can sign
international health certs.  Not all vets are. Most are.
Quarantine is still available in UK, but is VERY expensive
and would be for six months.
Where are you in the USA?  I can still provide more
assistance and advice, so please give me some more specifics
as to your needs.
Most sincerely,  Jerry Mishler
