Travel to Greece with dogs

Question
I have the opportunity to live in a beautiful coastal part of Greece permanently.  However, I have two medium-large dogs who are family members and who cannot be left behind.  Do you know about Greek laws and regulations pertaining to importing dogs?  Also, what is the most comfortable type of transport for large dogs?  I am not sure that they would survive being in crates on an airplane.  Is there some sort of way to transport them by ship where I could be aboard with them?  Thanks for any assistance you may be able to give me!

Answer
Hello Gene,

Thank you for your inquiry.  What a wonderful opportunity to be able to move to Greece!

To answer your questions--

1.Do you know about Greek laws and regulations pertaining to importing dogs?
We have a helpful list of import requirement for Greece on our website.  This is the best place to start in educating yourself about import requirements.  You can check it out by going here:  http://petrelocation.com/petrules-41.html

2.Also, what is the most comfortable type of transport for large dogs?  I am not sure that they would survive being in crates on an airplane.
We send pets of all sizes all over the world via air -- dogs such as Great Danes all the way down to little Chihuahuas and Yorkies.  They all travel safely in crates appropriately sized for them.  The best way to make your dogs comfortable is to get your dogs used to their crates prior to travel.  On our website you will find instructions on how to measure your dogs and also helpful hints regarding crate training.

3.  Is there some sort of way to transport them by ship where I could be aboard with them?
There might be a way to travel by ship but obviously this is not the fastest way and could actually increase your dogs' stress. I would advise against it.

We have agents who specialize in pet relocations to Greece.  If you are interested, I would encourage you to contact us directly via our Contact Us form on our website for a quote, if you haven't already.  We can assist you with the door-to-door relocation.

Happy Travels!
