Question
I'm thinking about moving to guatemala and I don't even know if I am allowed to bring my dogs from the USA. I saw questions about going to Mexico so I see I can go there but what about guatemala. Don't want to fly b/c don't want dogs to travel in baggage area. They are both small but can't bring two on plane.

Answer
Dear Alexandra
I also have a lady going from Japan thru USA to Guatemala
GUA seems to want a lot of paperwork, so I urge you to
contact   cargo@cargosa.net   They are a pet shipper and
broker in G.C.  They seem to know just what you will need.
At least contact them for info.  If you have friends or
family there, perhaps they can also assist you.  Have you
yet contacted the Embassy or consulate for GUA?
Same with Mexico, should you decide to drive thru.  They
seem to change their mind often as to just what you might
need.  The general rule will be:  aphis 7001 international
health cert issued within 10 days of your departure and
endorsed by usda, AND, rabies cert issued at least 30 days
and less than one year before departure.  You may need a
visa from Mexico.  GUA will want to issue an import permit.
I do NOT understand why people often fear air shipment of
pets.  This would be the most safe and least expensive way.
Driving thru Mexico, I do NOT recommend.  Air travel is
perfectly safe.  Several airlines will go to GUA.  United,
Delta, American and Taca are just some.
What city will you depart from in USA?
Hope this gets you started... Please let me know how else
I can assist.  Let me know more about your trip and plans
for GUA.  Why you selected GUA to travel to?
Most Sincerely,   Jerry Mishler
