Traveling with kittens

Question
Hi,

On Saturday (5/31), I will be getting two 8-week-old kittens for my apartment.  On June 13, I will be leaving Alabama for Michigan for 10 days.  I would like to take the kittens with me, for a few reasons: Although I live with my sister, she is very busy and would not be able to properly care for the kittens.  I have no neighbors to care for them properly, either, since our apartment complex has cleared out recently, due to school letting out for the summer.  (I live off of a University campus.)  Plus, there is the simple fact that I don't want to leave them alone for so long, especially since I will have only had them 2 weeks, and I'd like to continue to care for them.

I will be traveling in a truck, with a small area immediately behind the seats for storage.  My question is, will it be safe and efficient to place the kittens in a travel carrier at my feet (there's plenty of room for this), and place their litter box in the small area behind the seats?  Or is there another method I can use?

Also, do you have any general traveling suggestions for my situation?

Thank you so much for your help!

Kelly

Answer
Dear Kelly
This is a little out of my expertise.  However, I would certainly
suggest you not take these little ones at this age on such a trip.
They will not be old enough to have had all their vaccinations.
They would not require much attention if left at home if your sister
just gives them some minimal attention.
