microchipping dogs moving from US to Turkey

Question
I am moving to Dalyan, Turkey from chicago and flying through Istanbul with
Turkish Airlines.  One of my dogs has the Avid Euro chip & I need to chip the
other dog but I am confused as to what chip will be accepted.  Mostly I read
that I need a 15 bit chip but I can't find a vet that has the 15 chips here.
Then I read that the Avid Euro is acceptable everywhere but France & then I
read that Turkey doesn't require a chip!  What is the correct information?  I
am really worried as I have never travelled so far with my dogs before.  Any
advice is greatly appreciated and I am happy to re-chip my other dog if need
be if the 15 bit chip is the required one for Turkey.

Answer
Dear Melanie
I would urge you to visit:  www.ipata.com  There are pet shipping
firms in Turkey.  Really best to contact them for the latest
requirements.  They are on the scene and can best address this issue.
Certainly in Chicago there MUST be a veterinarian who knows what to
do!!!!
Contact the usda office for Illinois......
On the ipata website there are also member firms in Chicago.  Contact
them as well
Sincerely, Jerry Mishler
