Cat on long flight

Question
I have traveled a number of times over the years with a cat in the cabin on short domestic flights. Soon I will be moving from Phoenix to Buenos Aires and I will bring kitty on the flights. Unfortunately there are no direct flights from here to there and I calculate it will be 30 hours from the time we leave the house until the time we get to the new home. I plan to not feed the cat for about 12 hours before departure. Still, kitty must have water during all that time. I can't expect him to hold it in all that time and I worry that he will be stuck in a carrier full of urine for over a day. Any ideas on this? The only thing I can think of is to line the carrier with foam or some kind of absorbent thing, then check it every few hours and if it is wet remove it and replace with a new liner and so on. Of course I won't be allowed to do this on the plane though. In addition I am wondering if this kind of stress could kill the cat, He is very healthy but not travelled. I took him on a 1500 mile car trip a few months ago and he was freaked out the whole time.

First of all, I do NOT recommend you take kitty in the cabin.  NO NO
The container is too small for such a long trip.  Also, please
take into consideration the other passengers having to smell urine
and listen to a noisy cat....
If you take the cat as excess baggage (checked) the price will be
the same no matter the size of shipping kennel. (as cargo, this would
increase with size)
I suggest getting a larger kennel, maybe the Intermediate which is:
32"L x 22 W x 23 H  Then, putting in a smaller litter pan.
This would give the cat plenty of room, etc
Using a water drip bottle may help, but they seldom work right.
You will need at least two plastic cups attached on the inside of the
door.  You could use 3.  At time of shipping add a little water to
each one, not enough that would spill out.  Most cats do NOT drink
much water.  At connections, request the airline to add a little
water, and then at destination.  Best to use bottle water, NOT local
draft water.
Your plan to not feed is excellent.
Using disposable diapers, etc is also a good idea for bedding.
Do NOT sedate under any circumstances.....
Hope this helps.  Let me know how it goes
