Travelling via London to the U.S.

Question
Hi,
We are thinking of travelling from Romania via car to Budapest and then flying from Budapest to Dulles via London.  We will bring our cat with us. Could you please tell me if there are certain requirements we need to me to travel with our cat for a layover in London?  Also, what do we need to have to bring him into the U.S.?  We just brought him over to Romania in August.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Katie,

Thank you for your inquiry.  All that is required to enter the US from another country is a current rabies certificate (less than 1 year, more than 30 days old) and a health certificate dated within 10 days of your flight.  As for your transit in the UK, you will want to check with whatever airline you plan on flying to make sure that a) this will be okay and b) that they will care for your cat during the layover.  The will not let your cat travel in-cabin into or out of London, so you'll have to have him fly as checked luggage underneath the plane.

Also, we'd love to have you as a member on http://www.MyPetMove.com an online community for people who have moved or are moving with their pets.  Sharing your experiences of moving with a cat to Romania and then what it was like living in Romania with a cat is one of the best ways to help someone who might be moving there in the future with their own pet! Feel free to check it out and let us know what you think -- or post pictures & a blog, too if you have time!

Cheers!
