Moving dog to Uganda

Question
Hi there - I am considering a job in Uganda, and whether or not I should
move my 5 year old 70 lb lab mix.  If I do, I will leave her with friends in the
States until I am settled and then send for her or fly her back with me if I can
arrange a trip home.  Do you know if there are quarantine requirements for
Uganda?  Are the long flights there unhealthy for my dog? (Usually takes 20+
hours of travel time to get there...)  Any advice or connections with others
who have moved dogs to Uganda (or anywhere in East Africa) would be
helpful.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi, Julia,

Thanksgiving intervened here, and I have been remiss in checking my e-mail.  I am sorry to have taken this length of time to respond.

Based on their advertisements the following airlines have service from USA to Uganda: British Air, South African Air, Ethiopian Air and KLM.

Although it is not yet required we recommend that your pet should be identified with a microchip that meets ISO standards 11784/11785. This is a 15 digit ISO compliant microchip that operates at 134.2 kHz. If your pet does not have the ISO microchip then the owner must provide their own scanner. For more information on pet microchips. Purchase the best selling 15 digit ISO microchip or our pet microchip scanners.

VETERINARY CERTIFICATE - Uganda PET PASSPORT:

NOTE: You will find information on obtaining the information and the veterinary certicate for Uganda at the end of this document.

RESTRICTIONS: Unvaccinated pets (dogs and cats only) under 3 months old may reuire an import permit Certain aggressive breeds of dogs are prohibited from entry.

We offer a PET PASSPORT package consisting of the rules and instructions for taking a pet animal into Uganda, the veterinary certificate meeting their requirements, an airline veterinary certificate, and a pet passport folder.

We also offer the European ISO microchip and pet carriers that are airline approved both for cargo and in-cabin use.
