Question
What is the white flim on top of the water. Ammonia levels o-k, Nitrate levels a little high, salt water tank is about 8 years old given to me by a friend whose brother set it up,
Not sure what I doing but the tanks seems to be doing really well other wise.

Answer
Jim,
Most likely you are not getting enough surface aggitation and the nitrogen gas released during the filtration process is getting trapped in the water.  Redirect one of your pumps or water returns from the filter to create more water movement on the surface and this should go away fairly quickly.

Another easy way to prevent this is to get a protein skimmer or a filter that skims water from the surface.  This will draw that film into the filter creating proper gas exchange.

Best of luck with your tank!
