popeye syndrome

Question
am currently treating redflame angel for this in one eye with PimaFix - is syndrome bacterial or from "bends" - other 6 fish seem fine.   Thank you.

Answer
Popeye has several causes... typically it's a bacterial infection that is best treated with mild anti-bacterial medication like Melafix.  Pimafix seems to work better for fungal.

Other causes are excessive bubbles in the aquarium that get caught behind the eye.  These get released over time, but treating with the Melafix and a good diet will help prevent any secondary bacterial infections.

Finally and most rare, if there is some type of tumor behind the eye it will cause it to bulge.

Best of luck with your Angel.
