distilled water

When my water evaporates in my saltwater tank i add distilled water that i buy of the store. Is it safe to add Distilled water?

Hi Oscar,

Distilled water is okay, but not optimum to use as top off water. If you are going to be buying water from your local grocery store, try to find water that has been carbon filtered, and filtered with reverse osmosis or reverse osmosis and deionization. It will state the method used to filter the water on the bottle; sometimes it's in very small print.

Also, most local pet fish stores sell reverse osmosis water, both saltwater and freshwater. You can also find filtered natural ocean water at Petco, they sell it in 5 gallons boxes.
