water features

hello,
    I am only 13 but i want to make my own little water feature. but i dont no exactly wha to put init. Im growing some duck weed and this other kind of weed my friend has give me. so i was wondering if you had any idea's for me, i was thinkin of putting one or two fish in there once i have finished but i need to get the basics rite fist.
