loosing water

Question
We put in a pond and have been trouble free for 5 years . Last year the underground pipe from the pump and filter holding tank to the waterfall/filter sprung a leak. We fixed this easily, the leak was easy to find. This year we keep loosing water in the holding tank. the water level in the pond does not go down , just the water in the holding tank. We have to replace water daily. With no signs of water pooling anywhere!!And no signs of cracks or leaks in the tank itself! Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi there!

If you have noticed the problem only after you have fixed the leak, I would suggest you going back to the place where you found it first.

Was the holding tank loosing water when you noticed the leak?

If so, was that the same amount that you are loosing now?

Is the waterfall decorated with stones?
Could they have been moved during the work you did?
Have you tried to adjust them?

Water could make its way over the edge of a pond due to excessive plant growth.

You could shut off the pump for about 24 hours and see if the water level keeps going down or stops at some point.
If it stops at some point, you should try to find a leak at that level.

Keep in touch!

Good luck.

Are there any low edges where the water could be leaking?
