Question
my dad made me a garden pond about 4 or 5 months ago - though it seems longer! i got tadpoles when the pond was finished and some of them are now froglets, but yesterday my dad came home from work with 2 goldfish (white with some orange bits)for the pond because a man he knows doesnt want them any more because he is moving his pond but now i am really worried that they will eat my froglets!!  should i move the fish indoors? And also the other day i noticed one of the tadpoles had a bleeding tail just where it joins onto the body so i brought him in for a couple of nights- did i do the right thing ? will he get better? and what could have caused this? please reply asap!!!  thanx xxx

Answer
How big is the pond?  How big are the goldfish?  How big are the tadpoles?  Goldfish will eat smaller tadpoles if they'll fit in their mouths.  They shouldn't bother larger tadpoles such as full-term green frog or bullfrog tadpoles.  Goldfish shouldn't eat the newly-morphed frogs (froglets).  Tadpoles sometimes get beaten up by predators resulting in bleeding like you saw.  It could also be septicemia (bacteria in the blood).  Antibiotics might help the tadpole but not always.  Sometimes tadpoles with the bloody areas will recover and sometimes not.  Good luck!
