shady bog garden

Question
Hi Jonathan,
I have an area north of my house in zone 5. The soil is sandy and it gets some morning sun. Also Red pines line the property line.
I want to plant ferns and hosta along with other shade plants.
My question is, I have thought of making the area a bog garden. I currently have one near my small garden pond. Would this help enhance the plants, (especially the ferns). I would really love it to look like a natural wooded area.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
Thanks, Fran

Answer
Yes, Fran.  I believe a bog garden could provide an excellent home to ferns and hosta.  You could even make it appear to blend in naturally with the area around it, with about a year to let it grow in fully.  I'm sorry this isn't the most insightful, detailed answer I've ever given.  Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
