Question
QUESTION: Hi Johathan:

My pond used to have a leak and after we repair the leak a lot foaming is forming in the pond and also algees

I was reading that foam can be formed from disolved organic, but I do not believe this is the case in my pond, becausre it started to appears after the repair.

Could you guide how to resolve the foam and algas in my pond!

Thyank you

ANSWER: It could be from some input material, such as the seam tape's adhesive.  It's quite hard to pinpoint the cause of pond foam unless you know everything that has been introduced into the water recently.  The best guesses I have are adhesive, decomposed organic matter, or a seemingly-irrelevant lawn product.

Give me some more info on the algae, how it looks, and its daily behavior and I'll try to help you out.

QUESTION: Thank you Jonathan for your promt response.

The algaes are of strong green color and tends to cover all the stones in less than 2 days. We put 2 table spoon of chlorine product to kill the algaes an clean the stone and it works but we get more foam. It is like vicious cycle.

Please advise what chemical treatment I should be using to keep the water clear. We do not have fish jet.

Answer
It sounds like a filamentous green algae.  The algae is there because of the nutrients in the water.  Two table spoons is not a lot for algae control, you would probably need much more than this, but would have to completely change the water before introducing fish or plants.

I don't recommend chemical treatments with fish in the pond, but chlorine bleach is the best for now.  Technically, the algae will eventually use up every nutrient until no algae can grow anymore.  This assumes that not even a single leaf will fall in the pond and decay.  The only ways to control algae are by nutrient control and by using chlorine bleach.
