Question
We have a 400 gallon pond with 10 shubunkins that are about 3 years old. For the past two months, one of them has swelled to twice it's size in the belly and does not eliminate. We moved it to another pool and it still swims, but is now floating upside down most of the time. It has quit eating. It does not appear to have dropsy, but don't know what is wrong or what to do. Can you help.

Answer
Dear John,

Sorry to hear the troubles with the Shubinkin.
However from A distance it is hard to tell what exactly is the problem in this case.
It is also possible that it is A internal issue like cancer.
Then there is nothing you can do.
If it is the swimming blather, then A bacterial or other infection can be the cause.
Unfortunately only experts at site can determine this.
If you do not want to do this, you can try to add some dissolved salt in the pond.
This will reduce some of the stress and is somewhat disinfecting.

Good luck!
Warm regards,
Raf
