dusty water

Question
Hi Jaymie, i recently set up and cycled a 10 gallon tank(my first).
Currently i have 2 dalmation mollies(1 m, 1 f), 1 black molly, 1 pepperd cory, 1 upside down cat, and 1 ghost shrimp...
Ive read a few articles about so called "cloudy" water and i dont think thats what i have. It looks more like dust or something, as the water is clear but there are tiny particles everywhere that i thought were bubbles at first, then i thought might be dissolved food so i didnt feed them for 2 days, but nothing has worked. I have a 10 gallon cheapo hob filter that came with my kit and aNother hob 5-15 gallon cheapo filter.
It doesnt seem to be affecting any of my fish as they all seem happy. No listing or gasping or erratic behavior and they are eating fine.
Could it be the cheapo filters maybe?

Please help, thanks,
Chris

Answer
Chris,
When you cycled the tank, which takes at least 6 weeks, were there fish in the tank? It could be the filter. They put cheaper filters in tank kits, and sometimes they do not work too well.Sounds like it isn't pulling in the water well enough to get things out of the tank. Are you doing 25% water changes weekly by using a gravel vacuum? If not, try it and see if that help remove some unwanted things. Since it is a 10 gallon tank, you are definitely at your stock limit so I would not add any more fish.
