Molly Disease

Question
I've had my molly for 2 months now, around 2 weeks ago I moved a male platy and a male molly to a different tank because my female molly had one baby in the tank and was close to giving birth to a new batch. The only other fish in the tank, other than her female baby, is a female platy. She gave birth and a 1/2 week later I noticed her swimming funny and her fins showed signs of fin rot so I ran and got medicine for her. I followed the 7 day directions on the bottle and here it is 7 days later and she's more active but she's developed 2 clear liquid filled bubbles through her skin that have pushed her scales up and the bigger one seems to be oozing a clear whitish liquid because I can see it hanging from the bubble. What is this?

I use aquarium salt, 10 gallon tank, 74 degrees.

Answer
Hi Kyrie;

They are probably fluid-filled cysts or possibly abscesses from infection. Medicine may or may not help but a Tetracycline type antibiotic is your best bet. Maracyn-Two is a good one available in fish stores. It has Minocycline, a relative of tetracycline and it absorbs inside the fish. Even better would be to get an antibiotic treated food. There are some available in fish stores. The infection is inside her body and medicated food usually works better there. Keep her separated from the other fish. Whatever she has may be contagious.
