Question
I have a 20 year young Appendix gelding. He's a Show Jumper. I will excercise him realy good for about a 1 1/2 hours every 1 (to 2) day(s).I plan to go to show this fall with him. He is always in the pasture (all of our pastures have lots of green grass.)He has free range of coastal hay in his pen, and he gets a half-a-flake of alfalfa once a day. So, how much feed should he get???
P.S
He is about 1100lbs,

Answer
It depends on what type of grain you plan on giving him. If it is going to be sweetfeed he should get about half to a whole scoop, like maybe give him half a scoop in the mouring and a whole scoop at night. If it is going to be grain that is meant for show horses he should get about a whole scoop mouring and night. Here is a tip if your going to show him. To make him look nice you should put 1/4 cup apple cidar vinegar in his feed everyday, that will make his coat real shiny, and to make his coat look healthy you should groom him everyday, give him a bath every two weeks, and rinse him off after exercises, and training sessions. That should make his coat really really nice. I hope this helps and good luck with you showing.
