turtle doubt

Hi, I live in India.I found a Red-eared Slider in our area.I sold it to a pet shop cause i couldnt keep it.is it illegal to have these.Are they endangered? Kindly advice me.They are a introduced species.

In the United States, the Red-eared Slider is a common species in many areas- it is native to much of the south eastern states and has been introduced in many others. It is probably the most common pet turtle in the US.

They are also commonly exported as pets in large numbers- both because they are easy to catch and breed easily. It does not surprise me that it is invading other countries. it is sad, however, because introduced species often mess up native ecosystems.

I do not know if it is illegal to own one in India, but it is not illegal here.
