Russian Tort w/Growth

Question
Hi.  I recently purchased a female Russian from Petco.  I have had my healthy male for 7 years now. I am pretty experienced w/the little guys but have found something odd that I can't explain.  My female had a small, spongy black growth on the top of her eye.  It was pliable and didn't seem to hurt her at all.  This growth has gone away but now, there is a full circle around her eye that is white, almost like her scales have fallen off. Upon checking, I saw that she also has a fleshy growth near the same eye that is opaque and spongy looking.  It doesn't seem to hurt her....I don't want her to get my male sick or be in any kind of trouble....any suggestions?  I'm thinking it may be a fungus of some sort??

Answer
I hate to admit it, but I have no clue what this is. My first thought is parasite- mite, tick, etc.- very common in wild-caught animals like this (most non-baby Russians are wild caught), but it does not sound like a parasite.

I don't know of any black fungi or growths that affect tortoises and my veterinary reference book does not describe anything like this either as far as I can tell.

Now- there are a LOT of fungi and other things that it might be, but a decent care program would be to dab the growth with Betadine Solution a couple times a day- and dab the old growth site as well.

I would probably separate the two for at least a few weeks to protect the male, just in case.

If the growths continue for another week without improvement, I'd have to recommend a vet.
