Question
QUESTION: Hello,I have a painted turtle as well as a spotted turtle brought to me as a rescue. I had successfully raised and still have other kinds of turtles for years. The problem is both of the turtles do not have the abillity to sink or swim to the bottom. They both try and swim very hard to get to the bottom but float right back up to the top like a "float toy" so to speak. I noticed this when I put some sinking pellets in the tank (180 gal) I have never seen anyhting like it before. I do not have any history about them. Any ideas? Any help would be great.\
Thank you.

ANSWER: Floating one side high is a strong sign of pneumonia, floating tail end high is usually a sign of digestion problems. Both, sadly, usually take a vet's care to clear up.

QUESTION: Hello again, OK I understand that if either side is floating, but that is not the case. They both float level not either side up. They seem to be eating swimming running and pooping very well. I don't hear any wheezing or anything. Do you still think this is the problem, pneumonia or digestion problems?
Thank you again,
Roy

Answer
A turtle that is floating is in trouble, and with both of them doing it, I am still leaning towards pneumonia. They often do not show 'cold' symptoms with this.
