Digging Behavior

Question
Our African Sideneck Turtle has recently been quite active and has been digging throughout the day. We have only had the turtle for 3 months but it has never done this before.  Does this behavior mean anything or is it just normal turtle behavior.  Thanks for taking the time to answer the question.

Answer
Hello K,

Digging is the usual behavior of pregnant females, for preparing themselves to lay their eggs. But since you only got one single turtle, I suppose a pregnancy is not the case here. Instead I think your turtle is just acting as it should have done in the wild. Turtles and tortoises likes digging and it's also a natural way for them to find food. So you don't have to worry about your turtles health, it's behavior is totally normal.

Best wishes
