QuestionWe have a large terrapin tank with one mature red eared terrapin. The tank is kept very clean but we are plagued with small worms in the water which evolve into tiny black flies. We clean these out with a fine net three times a day but they breed even quicker, What are they and how can we be rid of them. They do not seem to trouble the terrapin, but they sure as hell bother us with hundreds of tiny black flies in our house.
Thanks for any help
Chris
AnswerHi Chris, sorry for the late reply
Have you tried emptying the enclosure completely? Taking out all the water, scrubbing all the items that are inside and replacing the filter?
If after that they still show up they may be parasites and you should have the turtle's fecal matter checked by a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and medication if needed.
Good luck
