Red-eard slider

Question
Thanks for reading my question :)! I have a healthy red-eared slider named Harry (from Harry Connic Jr.'s Star Turtle CD) who we love every day.  Shes been doing really well, and over the three years Iv had her shes been fine.  We condition her water, clean the tank all the time, feed her every day, keep her light on and have a log for her to bask on.  The only question I have is about what *else* to do for her!  Lol - this man sound weird, but I feel like shes got nothing to *do*!  All she does all day long is try and swim out of the side of the tank, bask or "dig" in the big stones at the bottom (I assume to look for worms).  Some times I take her out to walk around the front yard... but that's about all.  Are there any turtle *toys* or things that she can *do* :)?  And how much water should I keep in his tank (shes been doing a lot of growing, so her tank is pretty big).  Right now we have enough water for her to stick out her head with her feet on the ground.  Should she have more to swim around in?  Oh, and how *much* should we feed her?  She seems to want to eat way more the the box of pellets says to give her (she could take out a whole palm-full if Id give it to her :).  Lol - I guess I had more questions then I thought!  Thank you very much for your time ^_^.

Answer
Hi Angela,

There aren't exactly any "Toys" for her but there are things you can do to make her more active. Have you ever boughten her a turtle cuttle bone? The water should be the depth of 2 times the length of her shell. A 4 inch turtle can have up to 8 inches of water. So that will help if you have more water for her to swim in.

Now, trying to swim out of the tank makes me think its too small or not enough water. Put in more water and see if that stops.
Digging can be numerous things. Most often with females she is looking for a place to lay eggs. Did you know that female turtles will lay eggs even if they haven't been in contact with a male? These eggs will be infertile and so should be frozen and discarded. However they still need a good place to lay their eggs. If they have eggs in them fertile or not and they do not have a place to lay they can hold them in causing fatal issues with your turtle. If you want information on setting up a lay site, let me know.

I can also help if you are not sure of her gender.

So more swimming area, a turtle bone, and lots of edible plants and other decor to hide in.

Anything else, just let me know
Good luck
