QuestionI have a 50 gallon hard plastic pond. How do I make the eddges so that the turtles can get out of it onto land? Also, if I put a wire 1 foot fence around the pond, can the turtle get over or under it?
AnswerSpecific answers would depend on many things, but in general...
1. A ramp made of plastic or non-resinous wood will help the turtle get to dry land, and
2. Most turtles are surprisingly good at both climbing and digging. A 1' fence is not usually a big problem for them, and wire fences often leave gaps they can crawl under.
Try a more solid wall with firm connection to the soil, or slightly dug in. Either go higher, or angle it, or have a topper.
