Red Eared Turtle pet not eating food

Question
Dear Reader,

I had just got two turtles, the red eared sliders as pets.
These are about 1.5 to 2 inches long.
I had kept these in a separate tank.
I am facing a problem that these are not eating the food since the day I have got them (2 weeks).
Also, there isn't enough movement seen in them.
I have tried providing them enough water to swim and even plenty dry stones to chill out.
Please help.
I am worried.
Reply soon.

Answer
Hi Prakash,

I'm not a water turtle expert, but I can suggest a few things.  Red eared sliders need a roomy tank with a good filter and water heated to about 78 degrees.  They need a basking spot out of the water that's about 88-92 degrees, and a good source of UVB.  If they're too cool or too warm they won't eat.  A varied diet that includes plant and animal matter is important--pellets are fine as part of that diet, but they do need variety.

Unfortunately, red eared sliders are farmed in huge numbers and the hatchlings sold are often in poor shape.  Yours may simply be sick, but if you were told to just keep them in a bowl that might be the problem--move them into a tank with a filter, water heater, and basking/UVB light.  Here's a website that will give you complete information on RES care:  www.redearslider.com.  Good luck!
