Salmonella

I own several species of aquatics, and just got a cherry head tortoise..my question is do land turtles also have the ability to produce salmonella like the water turtle, and if NOT ,is it safe for these different types of turtle to mingle together

Hi Nick,

All reptiles can shed salmonella, tortoises as well as turtles.  You don't want to keep your cherryhead with aquatics, though, as it's not a good idea to mix species and I wouldn't recommend putting tortoises and turtles together in any case.  Best to keep them in separate enclosures.
