Question
Hi There,
I have a male and a female Russian Torts. Healthy happy growing well. All is good except I have noticed the males beak has started to grow. I have given him a cuttlefish bone to scrape on and he has logs and stones in the habitat. The female does not have this problem. THey live indoors for about 8 months of the year and outdoors about 4 months. The are fed a variety of food and I have planted their outdoor enclosure with food for them to browse. I feed indoors about 4-5 times a week.Temp and humidity are fine.
Thank you in advance
J

Answer
You really did not tell me much about the diet, temps, etc., just that they are 'fine'. This is not very helpful so I cannot really offer more specific advise.

Overgrown beaks can be a sign of too much calcium, too little calcium, too much phosphorous, long term dehydraton, etc.

The best thing to do is to double check the basic cares, diet, etc. I would use a site like http://www.russiantortoise.org as a start, or a forum dedicated to tortoises, like http://www.tortoiseforum.org where you can discuss the issue with other keepers.
