Question
HI
I have2 indian tent turtles who only eat carrots not even spinach or corriander ,am currently in india ,,can you tell me what to try feeding them, they dont eat turtle food we get here. am i supposed to feed them veg or non veg

Answer
Hi Bianca,

There are several species of tent turtle (Pangshura species, formerly Kachuga) and more than one is often called Indian tent turtle, so I'm not certain which species you have, but the diet should be fairly similar for all species.  They are omnivorous, so should be offered animal protein (try boiled chicken/shrimp/egg, worms/crickets/mealworms/bloodworms) and greens (not sure what you have there, but try mustard, chicory, dandelions, collards, turnip, kale, etc.--not vegetables).  From what information I could find, they become more herbivorous as they get older, so the amount of animal protein you offer would depend on the age of your turtles.

Here's a gallery of Pangshura species that might help you ID the species of your turtles if you're not sure which one they are:  http://www.chelonia.org/pangshura_gallery.htm  Hope this helped.
