compatibility of tortoises

I was wondering about the compatibility of getting a second tortoise for my russian. I was thinking about a red foot???? Anything I should be aware of?

Hi Meg. The two tortoises you are looking to combine are not compatible. Red foot tortoises are more rain forest types as Russians are desert.

A Russian tort prefers dry, no humidity, and their diet isn't the same.
Red foot require water, soaking areas as well as basking.
Their dietary requirements are not the same either.  

If you consider setting up a new enclosure then you can have both but I recommend against putting together as their care would be a confused mess as well as cause you heart ache if something was to happen.

Are you considering another Russian tort?  you can do that easily and i tell you, there are hundreds in rescues needing homes. Either way no matter what decision please go to a rescue and if you can not find one e mail me and Ill find the closest for you.
