Question
I have become very interested in turtles especially yellow bellied slider and am strongly thinking about getting one as a pet. If i buy one i will get a tank but i don't want to get a tank that will be grown out off within a couple of mounts. my question is what rate do yellow bellied turtles grow at and what tank size would you recommend for a starter like me,
regards,
Francesco Tambellini

Answer
Update:  ther rate of growth will range from care. If you provide the proper lights, heat foods and dietary needs as well as outdoor time, you should see proper gorwth. In my years Id say they range from 4 inch after bought to about 9 inches within 5 years. I am sorry that didnt show in my previous post.i think it got deleted during edit time.

You can safely say if proper care is provided then the turtle should grow about 3 in per year.

Hello If youre interested in buying only one set up for a long time go big.
I use outdoor ponds for m ine. KNowing that most people cant do that please try like 55 gall tank. this will eventually be to small as well but it will be a few years.
